Who are we?

The Indische Gemeinde Düsseldorf e.V was founded in 2012 by a few passionate Indians in Düsseldorf. Over time, the small organisation has grown with a vision of intercultural interaction and appreciation with a special focus on Indian literature, art and cultural heritage. In 2022, IGD will celebrate its tenth anniversary. The association consists of members who believe in the aims and objectives of the association as laid down in the constitution. They have joined with an agenda to support these goals.

What we do?

You can find a home away from the home here. Leaving homeland alwyas difficult. Even in the era of world wide web, where you can find all the necessary information for our life hood, a person to speak in your own language in the foreign land gives a pleaseure, a sense of security, a relief. We have a growing community and we are connected with each other. Our bonding is our strength. By the processes of maintaining the cultural heritage we stay rooted so that our next generation always hold onto the the Values.

Düsseldorf Durga Puja is a vibrant and culturally rich event that celebrates one of the most significant festivals in the Hindu calendar. Since 2012 we are organizing and celebrating one of the largest Indian festival. 

Düsseldorf Durga Puja is a cultural extravaganza that brings together people from diverse backgrounds to celebrate the rich traditions and spirituality of India. It is a time of joy, devotion, and togetherness that showcases the cultural diversity and unity of the Indian diaspora in Düsseldorf and surrounding regions.

 What you might expect at a Düsseldorf Durga Puja event:

Idol of Goddess Durga:
The centerpiece of the event is the elaborately crafted idol of Goddess Durga. This idol is placed in a beautifully decorated and well-lit pandal (temporary structure) or a specially constructed temple-like structure.

Rituals and Prayers:
The event begins with the recitation of religious prayers and rituals conducted by Hindu priests. Devotees gather to seek the blessings of Goddess Durga and offer their prayers.

Cultural Performances:
Düsseldorf Durga Puja features a wide array of cultural performances, including traditional Indian dances like Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and various folk dances, Bollywood dance and music. There may also be music performances, recitations, and drama presentations that depict rich culture of India.

Food and Cuisine:
A variety of delicious Indian dishes and sweets are available, giving attendees a taste of authentic Indian cuisine. You can expect to savor popular dishes like samosas, chaat, and various sweets like rasgulla and gulab jamun.
